Although the festive season is a time for tradition and family, there are still things that you can you do personalise it especially for you. You don’t need a huge budget to make that happen either! If you start planning now, by the time December hits you’ll be all set for a fabulously festive time!

  1. Make yourself a playlist

Just because everyone else loves Mariah Carey singing, All I Want For Christmas doesn’t mean you have to! You don’t even have to listen to the typical festive catalogue of songs at all if you don’t want to – although avoiding them elsewhere will be hard! Choose songs that make you feel happy and warm and that will get you in the spirit. Plus, you can go back to the same playlist every year and add to it.

  1. Treat yourself to new decorations

As the festive period, fast approaches it’s actually easy to forget about what makes you happy. A lot of the shopping you’re doing around this time is for someone else! It’s so nice to browse the gorgeous trinkets online and in the shops and choose your decorations for the season. Fun Christmas ornaments come in all shapes and sizes, and it’s so joyful to update your collection every year.

  1. Snuggle up and watch some box sets

As winter gets into gear, it’s the perfect time to turn up the heating, pick out your favourite blanket and watch some hearty Christmas shows. As well as watching classics like Elf and How The Grinch Stole Christmas it’s also nice to watch wholesome box-sets like Gilmore Girls! A little Lorelai and Rory coffee chatter will get you in the festive spirit.

  1. Be a little charitable

For those who aren’t so fortunate, Christmas can be a really challenging time. One of the most generous things you can do around this period is to donate some of your precious time to those that need it. There are plenty of homeless charities that need an extra pair of hands over Christmas. You could also sit with the elderly or help out in a soup kitchen. Research the charities in your local area and see where you could help out.

  1. Try something new in the kitchen

Even if your culinary skills are limited, now is a great time to try out some new recipes. There are so many wonderful spices around at Christmas time you’ll want to add them to everything. It’s especially good that it’s also sweater weather season – who cares if you gain a few pounds! You could totally get into the spirit of things and build yourself a giant gingerbread house. It’s a super fun thing to do and once you’ve taken all your pictures of it for Instagram, you can share it will your family and friends. Perfect!

The most important thing about preparing for Christmas is to enjoy it! Don’t let your to-do list worry you, just sit back and take it all in your stride.
