Finding a job in the first place seems like such a hassle. For starters, there is the job search, then there’s the interview, and then there is the job itself. All the while, we are supposed to have the satisfaction and enjoy our careers. If you’re like me, the prospect of nailing all of the elements will seem impossible. Studies show that some places are better for workers than others. It makes sense when you factor in things like opportunities and the average wage. The sad news is that employees don’t like to travel. In fact, they hate it so much that the average commuter in London complains when they have to stand on the tube for thirty minutes. So, the idea of moving to another area that you don’t call home might sound a little extravagant. The truth is that we all need to get away from our comfort zone every now and again. When your comfort zone doesn’t have the positions you need to succeed, it’s a no-brainer.
You don’t need to be a realtor to figure out that location is important. Still, there is no reason to put all of your eggs in one basket as the best roles don’t revolve around geography. For the most part, they center on a variety of aspects of the industry you work in. Sorry to burst your bubble, but there are jobs which are inherently miserable. Brandwatch reports that people in the finance industry hate their jobs more than any other sector. Those that work in a field that they love like elephant conservation projects don’t feel the same way. The question we all need to ask is, are we in a career that we hate?
What About The People?
A career isn’t an individual thing. We like to think it is because it is our life and no one else’s. The reality, on the other hand, is that the people we work with affect job satisfaction. Why? It’s because their ability to carry out their work affects the entire company. If they aren’t up to standard, it will end up coming back to people like you and I, which means more work and stress. Instead of viewing a job as a personal thing, it’s time we looked at what the team has to offer as a whole.
The main reason people hate their job is the duration of their stay. Plenty of employees make this mistake, and it’s because they get comfortable and subdue their ambition. Of course, we all need to take the time to settle in when we find a job we love. But, that doesn’t mean that we can’t dream about moving on to bigger and better things.
A tip: start thinking about making a move after a few years. It will keep everything fresh and stop you falling out of love with your job.
