It may not seem like it from the grey skies and frequent showers, but summer is definitely here. Although many of us count down the days until summer, it can be a daunting time of year, especially if you lack confidence in your appearance. If you long to feel more confident and comfortable when you hit the beach, here are some helpful hacks to try.
Get into exercise
Exercise is not only brilliant for helping you to tone up and gain more muscle definition. It’s also an amazing natural mood-booster, and it can really help you to increase your confidence and self-esteem. Whether you want to lose weight or you just want to tighten up those wobbly bits, getting into exercise can bring incredible benefits. If you don’t fancy pumping iron in the gym, don’t worry. The gym isn’t for everyone, and there are plenty of other ways to get fit. Take some friends to a spin or dance class, start doing high-intensity interval training 3 or 4 times a week, go swimming or dust down your bike. Try a few different sports, classes and activities and see how you get on. If you can find something that is fun, this will motivate you to work out more frequently.
Look after your skin
Who doesn’t want amazing, glowing skin when they’re basking in the rays or splashing around in the sea? You don’t want to be worrying about putting your face on if you’re on holiday and it’s best to adopt a less is more approach to makeup in the summer. For some, the idea of it being acceptable to be bare-faced is great, but for others, the thought of wearing no makeup is terrifying. To get that beautiful, au naturel look, focus on protecting and nourishing your skin. Have a look at skin care products, learn about serum effects and the benefits of using cleansers and exfoliators, and choose products that are aimed at your skin type. Protect your skin from the sun, drink plenty of water and resist the temptation to crawl into bed with your makeup on after a night on the tiles.
Go easy on yourself
Summer is a time when most of us feel more anxious about our bodies. If you’re not in perfect shape for the beach, you may want to try and lose weight or tone up, but don’t be too hard on yourself. It can be very easy to compare yourself to swimsuit models, especially if you spend a lot of time on social media, but remember that very few people have model proportions. It’s fine to want to make changes if they make you feel more confident, but don’t put too much pressure on yourself. Nobody is perfect.
Are you jetting off on holiday in the next few weeks? If so, you may be feeling slightly apprehensive about looking your best on the beach. Now is the time to build your confidence. Find some exercises and sports you love, take good care of your skin and learn to embrace your beauty. You may not look like an Instagram model, but that doesn’t mean you can’t look and feel fabulous on the beach.
