Still many many many days away! But that’s okay because all of this time is giving me the opportunity to plan for as much DIY as possible for the Wedding Day. One of the reasons Corey and I are putting the wedding off until 2018 is monetary (we’re trying to buy a house) and because of that I’d love to save as much cost as possible for the big day! So why not try to do as much as I can on my own?! So, on a regular basis, I turn to Pinterest. Follow along with my wedding boards here.
One of the most exciting things that I’m trying to learn will be a huge help for so many DIY projects when the time comes! Calligraphy and/or Modern Script. From invitations, save the date cards, place cards, signs, etc, Calligraphy is an elegant feature that could become quite a hefty cost if you were to commission it. So why not learn how to do it yourself? Truthfully…I thought this was going to be a lot easier.
For Christmas last year I received a great beginner Calligraphy set from my soon-to-be Mother-In-Law. She knew I had my heart set on learning this craft and I was gifted with the Speedball Calligraphy Collector’s Set which came with 2 classic pen nib holders, 1 oblique pen nib holder, 1 crow pen holder, 4 broad-edge pen nibs, 4 flexible pen point pen nibs, 3 jars of ink and 1 jar of pen cleaner! Wow! Everything I need in one box. It also came with a textbook “A Comprehensive Guide to Pen and Brush Lettering”. Now if only I can find talent in the box as well. I’ve been given all the tools to succeed but BOY, it’s not easy.
I managed to find some lessons in Toronto which I wrote about in this post. And as much as I’m still struggling along and find this task is much harder than I ever thought, I’m having a few successful practice sessions which you can also see on my new Instagram page @lattitudelettering! Or you can also check out my page L’attitude Lettering if you have any interest in my work!
I have so many other DIY ideas for the wedding as well. Decorations, signs, favours, gifts, etc. What did brides ever do before Pinterest? Like, seriously? I’ve been spending more and more time at Micheal’s and although I’m not spending too much money yet, I’m certainly getting many ideas for the wedding. There are so many things that brides can do themselves, no need to pay the big bucks. So without giving too much away with my wedding plans, I’ll keep you updated with my projects.
