Office Appropriate Nails

IMG_3097

I’m all for bold colours and decorative nails all day everyday. Even in the office. But sometimes, on the day of a presentation, the day you meet the boss’s boss, or the day of a rather important interview, less is more. Just like you wouldn’t walk into that room with a bold va-va-voom lip colour, you should probably avoid the crazy and outlandish nail colours as well. First impressions are important and as much as it sucks to say it – your clothes say a lot about you before you even open your mouth. But the same is true about all aspects of your appearance. When you go to shake a hand, make sure you have office appropriate nails.

Now everyone can judge variations of this based on their office environment. I for one can’t think of a nail colour or design that would not be appropriate in my laid back office. But for some, the bright greens, floral designs, or even the stiletto shaped talons I envy so much would be highly unprofessional and inappropriate. So for those of you who are in that category – I have some solutions that are still fun! Or at least I think so.

I’m a big fan of neutral nails. I know their not for everyone, but I love the ‘nude’ nail look. And it’s incredibly subtle. I love the fresh and clean look of it and I think it’s highly professional for any office or business situation. I love Orly Dare to Bare for my nude nails. Moving on to a bit more colour, I think that the subtle pinks and dusty rose colours are the perfect shades. As long as you don’t go to barbie or bubblegum, the light dusty pinks are quiet enough to be professional as well. I am a big fan and slight hoarder of the dusty rose shades, but one of my favourites is O.P.I Gouda Gouda Two Shoes. And finally, lets get you a bold nail. If you want to add colour and a little BAM! then go for red. Red nails are the classic femme fatale. The bold and sexy, yet appropriate for every situation type of nail. For summery red I love Essie Fifth Avenue but for Autumn and Winter I tend to take my reds more to the burgundy side of things and go for Sally Hansen Insta-Dri CinnaSnap!

What are your thoughts on office appropriate nails?

A Few Newbies

DSC_0219

I’ve been shopping lately. I’ve got the itch. The need for more!! (Cause we all know that’s exactly what I need…) My stash of makeup is still packed away, waiting for my vanity table to arrive before I finally organize and unpack. So I just added to the stash. Crossed off a few items on my list and didn’t have to unpack (two birds). My little haul was made up of a few trips, to Rexall, Ulta, Target, and even a few items currently being shipped across the pond from Boots!

– Nyx Smokey Palette

– The Balm Mary Lou-Manizer

– CK One Mascara

 Real Techniques Eye Buffer Brush

– Revlon ColourStay Liquid Liner in Greenspark

– Nuxe Reve de Miel

– Healthy Sexy Hair Soy Tri-Wheat Leave in Conditioner

– Orly BB Cream

and I’m patiently awaiting my delivery of Olay CC Cream and Soap & Glory Archery Brown Pencil, coming soon from my sister’s local Boots in Cork. There is nothing I love more than adding new arsenal to the lineup, so look forward to some great reviews coming up soon!! Have you ever tried any of these products? What do you think?

Review: Orly Nail Lacquer in ‘Dare to Bare’

DSC_0153

Ever used Orly? No, neither had I, until one fateful day a few months ago. I’ve seen the brand many times before as I walked passed it aiming for the China Glaze or OPI, yet I’d never seen a review or heard any feedback on the brand. So when I was desperate to find a perfect nude nail to go along with this year’s trend I found Orly’s Dare to Bare and I decided to give it a chance. And I don’t think I’ve ever been so happy with a nail polish before.

The polish is perfect – from the brush, to the coverage and the formula. It’s incredibly smooth to applicate and even with such a light, nude colour I don’t really feel the need for a second coat (although I still do one – creature of habit). It is also one of the quickest drying and longest lasting nail polishes I have ever used!! Never been happier, and I’m currently so obsessed with my Orly Dare to Bare. Definitely going to be sticking to Orly for any new polish purchases.
