Burt’s Bees Rose Water and Glycerin Toner

DSC_0153

A few weeks ago I sent a question into the Twitter void: What is your favourite toner? For years I’ve been using the Clinique Clarifying Lotion 2, but lately I’ve noticed my skin changing (maybe I’m getting old) and I’ve found the Clinique Toner to be a bit harsh for my skin. I needed something that would clean any excess dirt while closing my pores, but at the same time was soothing and gentle on my skin. My friend Alex told me about her love of the Burt’s Bees Rose Water and Glycerin Toner and after a little more research and browsing I decided to commit and give this one a go.

My immediate thought upon removing the packaging was how heavenly this smelled. I love rose, so I knew I’d love using this on a daily basis. During my first few days of use I got nervous that the product was irritating my skin. But after trail and error I realized it was a different product, and the toner actually helped to clear up the irritations once I removed that product from the rotation. I’ve been using the Rose Water and Glycerin Toner for about two weeks now and my face feels wonderful. Not only is it a soothing smell at bedtime, but the product leaves my face feeling clean and smooth and nourished when other toners leave my face feel clean and tight with a lingering alcohol scent. Overall I’m quite please with the product so far and I’m excited to try some more Burt’s Bees skincare.

What are your thoughts on Burt’s Bees?

My Kiehl’s Experience

Image

For the first time in my life I stepped in a Kiehl’s store last week. I needed to find a moisturizer for Corey and I’ve heard amazing things about the Kiehl’s mens products so I thought I’d give it a try (I’m going to try to get him to write about it later). But it’s not the purchase of the moisturizer that made my first ever Kiehl’s experience amazing. I just so happened to walk in on the same day a Kiehl’s head office representative was there, and she was awesome!!

To start, it seemed like every single person working in that store truly cared about you and wanted to help you with each and every one of your skin-care needs. Amazing customer service. The woman asked me about my skin type and my skin-care history, which products I’m using, what I’ve used in the past, and what works for me. She used skin blotting test strips on my skin to see whether my skin was oily, normal, or dry and she wrote out an entire profile for me.  She showed me exactly which products to use for my skin and how to use them. Because I was already purchasing the moisturizer for Corey, she sent me away with a ton of samples. She wasn’t pushy and didn’t try to get me to buy any. She specifically said she wanted me to try them before purchasing.

The samples she sent me away with were:

– Ultra Facial Overnight Hydrating Masque: To replenish skin’s water reserves for long-lasting hydration and healthy looking skin

– Ultra Facial Cleanser: Gentle liquid formula that cleanses without over-drying or stripping skin

– Ultra Facial Toner: Gentle toner to prepare, hydrate and comfort skin

– Cucumber Herbal Alcohol-Free Toner: For all skin types, particularly for dry or sensitive skin

– Ultra Facial Cream: 24 hour, everyday hydrating formula with extracts of glacial glycoproteins and desert plants

– Midnight Recover Concentrate: Lightweight, easily absorbed elixir effectively restores skin’s healthy appearance overnight, resulting in smoother more radiant complexion by morning.

I can’t wait to dive in and give it all ago. I had a spout of hormonal breakouts this week so I’ve been waiting for my face to go back to normal so I can tell whether or not these products are good or not. Overall my Kiehl’s experience was so great that I’m really hoping I love these products! The Kiehl’s representative also told me that the new location opening soon at Square One is having an event June 20th with some great product give-aways!! So give it a try, even if its only to learn a bit more about your skin. I had such a great experience I had to share with you.

Has anyone tried any of these or other Kiehl’s products? Any suggestions? @clnwf

I love The Body Shop, but…..

Image

I must start by confessing my undying love of The Body Shop. I absolutely love the store, love the products, love the ingredients and formulas, and I especially love their ethical fair trading, non-animal testing,  human rights defending, planet protecting, self-esteem raising values and foundations.

But I have a qualm. A few months ago I purchased a package of the Seaweed Line Face products; little sample sizes to give the entire line a try without devoting myself to the big bottles of each (another reason I love The Body Shop). You can see my review of the products here, but as a quick recap I generally thought the line of products were decent, some of which I wanted to repurchase. Yet my qualm, since writing that review, now lies with The Body Shop’s Seaweed Clarifying Toner. A few months ago I wrote that the toner “leaves my face feeling quite greasy the next morning,” yet I still gave the toner the benefit of the doubt, and continued using it in conjunction with the rest of the Seaweed line. Yet after a recent bout of obvious damage to my face this past week (red burn-like appearance to my cheeks and itchy as all hell) and some trial and error, I’ve discovered that this toner is to blame. After donating the bottle to the drawers of my mother’s makeup cabinet, the same thing happened to her within a day, both of us having not-so-sensitive skin. So what the heck?! Both of us have been trying to counter-act the feeling with familiar products and a heck of a lot of moisturizer, but still we suffer. So I just wanted to put this out there, let other people know that after a few months of nothing, the product suddenly didn’t agree with me. Please be warned…it’s quite uncomfortable. But by all means PLEASE do not be turned off of The Body Shop’s products. Because they are truly wonderful. (more Body Shop reviews to come soon – Vitamin E line is my best friend)

Please….share your thoughts. Should I possibly try to return the product? I’m not usually one to complain about anything, but should I bring it back the The Body Shop and let them know what happened to me? Have you ever had this happen to you with any products? (not necessarily The Body Shop). But remember….The Body Shop is seriously wonderful.
